Gold Rush

Pin It I've been playing around with using more gold tones in my designs lately. I am usually a silver girl, however I am starting to love the classic, feminine look of gold. I love the pairing of the gold with brighter colors....perfect pairing for summer!

It's Wedding Season

Pin It I just finished a custom Bridal order for a customer this past week. I am really happy with how the items look. The bride wanted the bridesmaids jewelry to reflect each girl's personality. I thought it was a great idea and agreed to make each set different. Some of the designs are big and bold while others are feminine and light. It was such a great order to work on! The color scheme was bright gold, champagne and light green. I used Green Aventurine stones, champagne glass pearls and bright gold wire and chain.

Recommended Reading.....

Pin It I wanted to share with you some of my favorite books of late:

First, I will mention a jewelry book entitled "bead on a wire" written by Sharilyn Miller. This book is one of the first books I purchased when I began my interest in jewelry making. I am self taught, so this was a close companion of mine in the beginning year of my jewelry discoveries. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in the beginnings of wire jewelry. The descriptions are easy to follow and the photos are a great addition.

Another is a Vegetarian Cookbook by Linda Yoakam and Sue Spitler entitled "1,001 Low-Fat Vegetarian Recipes". There are lots of yummy, good for you recipes for vegetarians to peruse through in this large book.

Lastly, one of my favorite authors, David Sedaris' "When you are engulfed in flames". I had the pleasure of seeing him read some essay's from this book last October. His observations and assumptions make for interesting reading! He even signed my copy of this book for me :-)

North American Sea Glass Festival

In October I had the opportunity to attend the North American Sea Glass Festival in Lewes, DE. The festival featured many talented artists from sea glass jewelry to sculpture. For a sea glass lover and collector, it was my heaven on earth! 2008 was the first year that the festival was held on the east coast. Next year's festival will be held in Erie, PA on October 17 and 18, 2009. I am hoping to make my way to the Lake Erie coast next year as well for another wonderful sea glass gathering!

Every year the North American Sea Glass Association holds a "Shard of the Year" Contest. Collectors from all over the world bring their prized pieces of glass hoping to a chance at the $1,000 prize.

The festival also offers many workshops about the history of sea glass, origins and where to find it. I attended a few of the lectures, one with Pure Sea Glass author Richard LaMotte. He even signed my copy of the book! The book is a great resource for any sea glass collector.
